Paul is a passionate, enthusiastic and experienced registered health professional. With 20 years experience working in the NHS, most of that time as a diabetes specialist and leading a successful team of dietitians, Paul has a lot to offer his clients.
In 2015 Paul successfully obtained a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship. This prestigious award will culminate in Paul obtaining his PhD through research into Carbohydrate Advice in Type 2 Diabetes. He competed his PhD at The University of Birmingham whilst continuing clinical work with Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust and as a freelance dietitian specialising in diabetes and mental health.
Paul has undertaken a number of voluntary roles to support the advancement of the profession and to improve care for people with diabetes. These include roles on the Professional Practice & Education Board of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and currently as Chair of the BDA's Specialist Diabetes Group, during which time he was co-author of the UK Nutrition Guidelines for Diabetes.
About his Freelance work, Paul says: "I love the variety and the opportunity to work with so many different clients - both individuals and corporate. No two days are ever the same and as a Freelance Dietitian its really important to be flexible, responsive and to keep up to date in all the key areas. It's very rewarding."
